The 15th Annual Greystone Invitational Golf Tournament is poised once again to forge golf history! Volunteers like you are the lifeblood of its success and we need your valuable support as an important part of one of the world's premier amateur golf tournaments.
GI 2015 moves to our new Wednesday through Saturday tournament schedule from June 24 through June 27, 2015. This move is inline with other similar amateur events and it allows for better travel routines for the participants. Our new schedule and other changes will also allow for more Member play on the Founders Course following the Final Round on Saturday afternoon and now all day on Sunday.
We have an immediate and important need for a Housing Committee Chairman to help with matching up host families with college-age players who may request housing during the event. In addition, we will continue to need host families who are willing to open their homes (and their hearts) to these future stars in golf! Host families will receive a take-home dinner and beverages on Wednesday evening, meals and beverages during the tournament, an invitation to the Players Party on Friday night, and customized Greystone Invitational shirt and badge. All breakfast and lunch meals for the players are provided by the tournament.
The GI Team would like to give a special thanks to Member Missy McCabe (and all the others who have served in the past) who led the GI 2014 Housing Committee. Last year alone, Missy successfully found 36 beds for Greystone Invitational college age players during the four day tournament. Missy's organizational skills and tenacity were vital in locating a bed for all the participants who needed one. We continue to be blessed in how our Greystone community opens their homes to our guests and their hospitality plays a major part in the success of the tournament.
If you can help serve as the Housing Committee Chairman or as a host family, please contact Tournament Chairman Dale Gorham at 205-980-2500 or via email at email@example.com.
As in year's past, we will once again need marshals to assist the players with speed of play, locating wayward shots, obtaining rulings from the PGA staff when needed, and most importantly, making each player feel at home. If you would like to help with the tradition of hospitality to marshal a hole, or record player scores, please contact Volunteer Chairman, Mark Miehle at firstname.lastname@example.org or Director of Golf Steve Smith, email@example.com and let either of them know of your availability. We have spots open on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in the morning and afternoon. Marshals will receive a commemorative Greystone Invitational hat and a complimentary meal on their volunteer day.
Did you know that one of our GI 2014 participants, San Diego State's Gunn Yang, went on to win the U.S. Amateur Championship at Atlanta Athletic Club just a few months after playing here? Yang finished in a tie for 44th on the Founders Course, only 23 strokes behind GI 2014 Champion University of Cincinnati's and Birmingham area native Michael O'Toole's score of 10-under par 275! Just another indication of the world-class field that the Greystone Invitational continues to draw!
With the Regions Traditions moving back to Greystone in 2016, we are uniquely positioned to forge golf's future stars and also honor golf's past Champions! Come be a part of this amazing opportunity and volunteer for both events!
